The later EC10 Mark 2 is easily recognized, it has an aluminum look decal panel and additional fine tuning control, there's also a carrier level meter mounted in the tuning dial. The fine tuning control on the Mark 2 was a quite an improvised modification, a varicap diode was added to the heterodyne oscillator with the tuning pot placed in the former EC10 head phone jack position. Obviously the head phone jack had to be moved, unfortunately the rear panel was the most likely position, this did make things a little difficult for head phone users.

Literally the roads in heanor where luminous green after a curtain sided rigid Laurie spilt its load all over the streets of heanor town.
Quite funny the fire brigade were called to clean up the mess. There was chaos as traffic was diverted round the back streets of heanor. While cleanup operation began.

You can get decent solar panels off eBay for about �100 to put out 20w good enough for low voltage applications.

my solar panel is only small puts out 1.5w and I have managed to disguise it on my roof with some clear polythene.

My winter projects are to build a small wind generator using old electric motors. But the more i research this idea that more confusing it all becomes.

I also have a home-made Polly Tunnel made using plastic drainpipe and a big sheet of polythene. A bit of a makeshift outfit but it has almost lasted the summer taped together using gaffer tape.

I have managed to scrounge quite a lot of glass throughout the last year and planning on making a wooden framed greenhouse hopefully that will last a lot longer.

Not all my ideas turn out quite as I plan them but I am persistent and always looking to improve without giving up.

The more one tries the more one succeeds eventually. And it is all good fun in the out turn.

I keep saying one-day I will make a website to detail all my wacky ideas. Who knows somebody might be interested in them lol.

Allotments UK Forum and FAQ - solar power for allotment shed: "Hi I have a small well on my allotment it is less than 2 metres deep as there is a swamp and stream nearby. I have a sealed container that used to contain chicken pellets. I thoroughly washed The container.

I half filled the container with clean water and put bottles of pop in it sealed it and put it at the bottom of my well with some string attached to pull it back out.

Even in boiling hot temperatures like to day the bottles of pop are kept very cool.

I was thinking along the same lines with the whole solar panel think but it was all going to be expensive once I'd gathered everything to make it all work.

Although I do have a small solar panel on my shed and a old mobility scooter battery in my shed.

During the day the small solar panel charges the battery which I use to power my pump in my well, lights and a 12v Kettle for making coffee.

The solar panel cost �25 off ebay and puts out 1.5w.
The old mobility scooter battery i got for free.
The pump �15 off ebay
The Kettle �10 off ebay.

Now I can enjoy hot coffee or a nice cold refreshing drink while I am working on my allotment all for a relatively low price.

Just recently I have been on the scrounge for water butts cheaper the better.

I have found my local council recycling centre / tipp the best place to find them cheap very cheap. I keep popping down their every now and then to see what they have.

I got 2 small blue water buts for �6 a few days ago and a big one for a �5 a bargain.

Not only that i have for also managed to get some old hose, old shovels, and some old forks for a pound each. and a long hosepipe on one of them windup things for a �5.

I now make it a regular trip down their just to see what I can get cheap is amazing what people will chuck away.

I'm sure somebody is willing to give it away if you're willing to cart it away for them. Or you can take things of interest from people's skips on the roads side this is perfectly legal as any rubbish found in a skip is classed as refuge and considered by law that it is no longer required by its original owner.

But don't quote me on this I just remember reading it some where on the net.

It is amazing what you can find when you go on the scrounge I was taught to be cheeky and just ask the worst thing that thay can say is no.

Early on this year I wanted some palates I went round some industrial estate asking if I could take some of the palates left lying around. Quite a few said no but eventually I found some that said yes.

While searching the Internet I found this interesting short article.

It would seem that the kitchen, rather than genetic engineering, may hold the key to garden pest control in the future. According to a report in New Scientist (14th Oct '99) Brazilian scientists have discovered that spraying plants with dilute cows' milk stops powdery mildew in its tracks. The disease is controlled conventionally by spraying with benomyl or other synthetic fungicides. Apparently, milk diluted with nine parts of water is just as effective. So milk joins that other kitchen standby, bicarbonate of soda, as a safer alternative to chemical sprays. The only snag is that in Britain, because neither substance is approved as a pesticide, anyone tempted to try them in the garden risks prosecution!

Two French and one Portuguese lottery players will share the record 126 million EuroMillions jackpot after last night�s rollover draw.

Despite demand for tickets rising 1,200 per cent above usual levels, no British player matched the correct numbers. So many people tried to buy tickets in the final hours before the draw that the National Lottery website crashed.
However, a spokeswoman for lottery operator Camelot said last nights draw had seen 1.4 million UK ticket-holders winning prizes totalling 15.6 million, from 179,829 to 7.10. The winning numbers were 9, 21, 30, 39, 50 with Lucky Star numbers 1 and 3.

In the case of software, people can easily assess features, but not quality or security. So we get feature rich but buggy and insecure software.'
I'd like to suggest a comparison between the 'free software' built by the GNU/Linux community vs. the software built by proprietary software vendors such as Microsoft. While 'free software' software is not perfect, I find it to be much more reliable than proprietary software. On those occasions when a problem does arise, the end user can often get directly in touch with the author who will take it as a point of pride to fix it asap.
For those who don't know, GNU and Linux are 'free software'. I.E. they're licensed under something called the General Public License (GPL) - a.k.a. 'copyleft'. This licensing concept was invented by Richard Stallman, the founder of the GNU project, who explains that the 'free' in 'free software' means 'free as in freedom' not 'free as in free beer'. In other words, someone can charge money for 'free software' but their software must come with the freedom to examine how it works, and change how it works if needed.
Source code is the version of the program in the language that the programmer wrote it in. Source code to proprietary systems is kept secret by the company who develops it. Thus, as noted by Josling above, customers cannot assess quality or security. And just as in government, when things are done behind closed doors, bad results are common. Why do so many people believe that computers have improved productivity when the statistics show they have not?

This point is illustrated by a study of electronic point of sale systems in a supermarket, described in Landauer's book. The truth? The time saved at tills was compensated for by expenditure on support, maintenance, and time wasted when the machines went wrong.

You can see the same mechanism quite often. In my last job management thought it would be a good idea to have a 'skills database' to help match people to projects. FIRE has gutted Heanor's indoor market leaving stallholders devastated.
The blaze at Cosy Market is thought to have started in a card shop and caused damage which will cost thousands of pounds to repair.

I ussually kind of warm up with some good glaring at it, then I move into the odd disgruntled remark which soon leads to cursing, and more cursing, till I finally threaten it. I threaten it like no other. Sometimes the fear of being smashed will finally break a computers spirit and allow you to use it properly, but some computers fear fire most, or perhaps a hammer being waved at them. All computers are different, so you may have to try alot of different tactics till you find one that works.

My personal computer has had the cement patio outside as its ussual threat for most of its existence, which has kept it in line alot. But sometimes...you need to break some limbs...if it really wont work, then try throwing its keyboard around a little, or perhaps smacking its monitor, that ussually scares it a little.

In the end, if nothing else works, you may need to take it to the doctor. Sometimes they can fix it up well, but it will be expensive. If you do take it to the doctor, don't say anything about smacking it around, cause they don't like that stuff. Just keep that dirty little secret between you and it, which you will likely have to remind it about before going, otherwise it could spill the beans.

It can convert names to upper/lower case, change the case of the first letter, add text, left crop, right crop and just about anything else you can think of. Add in a nice GUI interface, an undo feature, full preview of changes, MP3 tag renaming, support for regular expressions and the fact that it's free and you have an outstanding product. The second and equally attractive option is Flexible Renamer. It's quite similar to Lupas and choosing between them is not easy. Lupas seems to me to be easier to use for simply renaming files while Flexible Renamer has the edge with tags. Flexible Renamer can also can bulk change file attributes while Lupas can't. I concluded that the best free security programs are very good indeed but for the most part, not quite as good as the best commercial security programs.

However, I qualified this statement with the observation that no security product, even the best, provides perfect protection. Perfect malware protection is a fantasy. It does not exist.

The most important point in last month's editorial was the observation that users of free security products can greatly improve their detection rates by combining several free products to provide layered detection.

Using the free AVG anti-virus scanner as an example, I showed that by adding another layer in the form of the free Ewido anti- trojan scanner, users could get aggregate protection that was as good as or better than using the class-leading NOD32 anti-virus scanner."

To Day I started a new project

The mission to build a spud gun

After some research and a trip to B&q,Tesco and ASDA I finally got the bits I needed
What I brought

One length of white piping approximately £1.50 from B&Q
one ball trap (usually fits under the sink) approximately £3.00 from B&Q
one role of insulation tape approximately £1.00 from B&Q
some epoxy resin approximately £4.00 from B&Q
one can of cheap Tesco's hairspray cost only 37p 300ml bargain! from Tesco
one barbecue lighter from ASDA

and some spare screws found in the shed

Tools used

one Philips screwdriver
one electric drill
and one junior hacksaw

And some ingenuity

First I got the ball trap and sawn off the pipe inside the ball trap comes into bits
The ball trap is the firing chamber
Next I plugged up one of the holes with some epoxy resin and some screws to hold it in place this stuff sets rocksolid in minutes
drilled a hole for the barbecue lighter to ignite the hairspray
cut a length of pipe and fitted it to the ball trap
Bingo it was done
Tested it with a potato and my God it flew
